5 Dental Health New Year's Resolutions

If you want to take better care of your oral health this year, here are five resolutions to help you achieve a happier, healthier smile:

  1. Improve Your Tooth Brushing Technique. Start by placing your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle along the gum line. Gently move the brush back and forth in short strokes. Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces and the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Next clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth by tilting the brush vertically and making several up-and-down strokes. Proper brushing should take no less than two minutes!
  2. Perfect Your Flossing Skills.
Brushing your teeth isn’t enough to keep plaque from building up on and between your teeth. To take the best care of your teeth and gums, you need to floss regularly too. If you’re not in the habit of flossing twice a day, the new year is a great time to start. Stash a container of floss in easy to reach places (like your handbag, car or desk drawer) that will give you plenty of opportunities throughout the day.
  3. Safely Whiten Your Smile.
Are your teeth looking a bit dull after all those holiday sips and snacks? Now's the time to brighten your smile with the help of natural ingredients like activated charcoal and coconut oil. Try our Dr. Brite Teeth Whitening Pens and you'll see results in just a few days!
  4. Keep Up With Routine Dental Visits.
Making routine visits to the dentist may help prevent oral disease or reveal an existing condition in its early stage. Dental appointments should take place every 6 months to allow your dentist to monitor the condition of your oral cavity and develop an appropriate treatment plan. If it's been a while since your last visit, you may be apprehensive about going back for fear of being judged. But all your dentist will care about is that you came in, not how long it's been!
  5. Make Healthy Lifestyle Choices
Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet is very important to your oral health. Drinking plenty of water, reducing your sugar intake and limiting snacks between meals will help improve your dental hygiene. Some of the best foods for teeth and gums are apples, leafy greens, carrots and almonds.
