Dr. Brite Attends Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting

Publish date:     Author: with insights from Pooneh Ram, DDS and Dr. Paris Sabo
Topics: Chicago Dental Society,  dental care,  dental health,  dentist,  Midwinter Meeting,  natural,  nontoxic oral care,  oral health,

More than 30,000 dentists and dental professionals from around the world attended the 152nd annual Midwinter Meeting, including Dr. Brite co-founder Pooneh Ram DDS. The Chicago Dental Society’s Annual Midwinter Meeting is a hands-on scientific conference that features daily demonstrations and educational opportunities to keep dentists up-to-date with the latest research, technology and trends.

The Hot Trending Topic at the Dental Society Meeting...

"Avoiding harmful, toxic chemicals as much as possible is one of the major industry trends," says Pooneh Ram DDS. "Patients are also more knowledgeable now, and are learning how to read labels and ask questions about the ingredients and products used in dental offices."

The 2017 conference theme, “Leadership: Cornerstone for Success,” was chosen by Chicago Dental Society president, Phillip J. Fijal, DDS, FAGD, FICD, FACD. "Leadership matters. It matters in our families, our communities, our practices and our profession. Without leadership we have no direction, no vision and our lives are lived without purpose,"Fijal wrote inside the meeting's program.

"As a dental professional, we often get busy with our day to day lives and our practices and we forget how the public rely on us for being leaders and educators in our field," says Pooneh Ram DDS. "The Midwinter dental meeting was a reminder to all of us dental professionals in the U.S. to take time and educate ourselves in the latest in technology and science so we can use it to educate our patients and take our practices to the next level."

Focus on Holistic Dental Education

New this year, each day of the meeting focused on an all-day track devoted to one topic. Thursday, February 23: The Business of Dentistry looked at everything from your appearance to how you communicate affects your ability to be a successful dentist. On Friday, February 24: The Basics Express: Things They Didn't Teach You in Dental School concentrated on problems you face on the job after you've graduated and passed the boards.

And finally on Saturday, February 25: A Day in the Life of the Female Dental Professional narrowed in on how the career expectations and goals differ for male and female dentists and how these differences can affect your professional life.

Closing Thought from Our Co-Founder, A Dentist for Over 20 Years...

"In a male dominated field, being a female dentist is tough. On a day-to-day basis, we encounter many situations such as patients failing to trust a female dentist's diagnosis. We have to work harder to prove to them that we are capable and even better in some cases than a male dentist," says Pooneh Ram DDS. "Times are slowly changing and the public is now more receptive to having a female dentist so we are definitely on the right track."
