A recent study shows that taking a selfie while brushing your teeth can contribute to better dental hygiene. Using smartphones propped on stands, study participants filmed their brushing session at home. Researchers saw an increase in the accuracy of brush strokes, an increase in number of strokes and an overall 8 percent improvement in tooth brushing skill.
"Often, tooth brushing is learned and practiced without proper supervision," Lance T. Vernon, study co-author and senior instructor at the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, said in a press release." Changing tooth brushing behaviors – which are ingrained habits tied to muscle memory – can take a lot of time and guidance."
The study suggests that taking selfies overtime will help people become more conscious of their brushing methods, leading to improved techniques and oral health. It can also make the sometimes mundane task more fun! So take a selfie of you brushing your teeth with Dr. Brite whitening mineral toothpaste and use the hashtag #bebriteselfie! Who knows, we might repost it! ;)
