Twenty years ago it was very difficult for consumers to purchase products that were consistent with their cruelty-free beliefs. At the time, many companies were designing their own logos and descriptions of what it meant to be cruelty-free, without even consulting with animal protection groups. But that all changed in the mid '90s.

The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) launched the Leaping Bunny Program in 1996 along with a rabbit logo that would represent products made without animal testing. Now two decades later, the Leaping Bunny has become the gold standard and internationally recognized symbol for cruelty-free.

It’s actually a great time to make the switch to cruelty-free products because there are so many amazing brands available on the market today that don’t test on animals.

The best way to start? When you finish a product, replace it with a cruelty-free alternative. Try not to wait until the last minute to find a substitute. With this comes the risk of purchasing the same non cruelty-free product out of desperation, because you don't have the time to find an animal-friendly product that will meet your needs instead. 

In the beginning you'll need to do a bit of research. The Leaping Bunny logo on product labels will ensure that item and its ingredients were not tested on animals.
