When her young son started eating toothpaste, it sparked her concern about the ingredients he was digesting. She discovered that even the most natural toothpastes still had harmful chemicals and toxins hiding in their formulas.

What age do you start brushing baby's teeth?
Even before your baby has teeth it’s important to take care of their oral health. Begin cleaning your baby’s mouth within the first few days after birth by gently wiping the gums with a clean, moist gauze pad or washcloth.
As soon as primary or “baby” teeth appear, decay can occur. The front teeth usually push through the gums at around 6 months of age, although some children don’t have their first tooth until 12 months or so.
Parents should start with a tiny smear of toothpaste to brush primary teeth twice daily as soon as they surface, with a soft-bristle children’s toothbrush.
Once your child has two teeth that touch, you may also begin flossing their teeth regularly. Despite the 2016 flossing debate, Dr. Brite co-founder and veteran dentist, Pooneh Ramezani DDS, highly recommends it.
"Flossing helps massage the gums and circulate blood into the supporting structures," says Dr. Pooneh Ramezani. "It also removes hard to reach bacteria and helps prevent gum inflammation."
When children reach the ages of 3 to 6 years old, the amount of toothpaste should increase to a pea-sized dollop. Since young children do not have the ability to brush their teeth effectively, parents should assist with tooth brushing.
Since it's difficult for many children to spit out their toothpaste after brushing, using a toothpaste with natural, organic ingredients won't cause any problems if a little ends up in their tummy.
When should your child start going to the dentist?
As soon as your child’s first tooth appears, it’s time to schedule a dentist appointment. Yes, that early! The American Dental Association says first dental visits should take place within six months after the first tooth appears, but no later than a child’s first birthday.
Even though they eventually fall out, baby teeth play are very important for many reasons. They help children speak clearly, chew naturally and aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to erupt.
After your child’s first visit to the dentist, a checkup every six months is recommended in order prevent cavities and other oral health problems. However, this schedule may vary depending on a child’s needs and risks.
When should toddlers start to brush their own teeth?
Children can start brushing their own teeth between the ages of 6 to 9 years old, or when they can tie their shoes by themselves. Caregivers should remain involved in their dental hygiene habits by supervising and helping them when necessary. You may still need to assist with flossing and make sure they brush for a whole two minutes.
How do I get my toddler to brush their teeth?
One of the many challenges you may face as a parent is getting your kids to brush their teeth on a daily basis. Here a few helpful tips to get your child in the habit of brushing twice a day for two minutes while having fun!
- Make it a game. Playing pretend is a great incentive for kids to use their toothbrush and toothpaste to get rid of the bad sugar bugs in their mouth.
- Sing or play a song. This will help the two minutes pass quickly and give kids something to distract them while brushing.
- Brush along with them. Children often mimic parents and older siblings, so brushing and flossing together helps kids get into a routine.
