As summer comes to a close, back to school season is gearing up. Kids of all ages will be adjusting their sleep schedules, figuring out a new morning routine, learning new subjects, and even possibly attending a different school.
With all of these changes, the last thing a child or a parent might have on their mind is oral health. But, a bright smile and fresh feeling breath helps ensure the confidence needed to take on new opportunities and challenges. This is where Dr. Brite can help make life easier.
In this post, we’ll discuss:
The Top 5 Ways to Get Your Kid’s Smile Back to School Ready!
You can smile britely for the entire school year just by following these 5 practical, holistic tips to take care of your child’s and your own oral health.
#1: Buy a New Toothbrush
Mechanically removing cavity-causing plaque is incredibly important for you and your child’s health. To effectively do this, you need to replace toothbrushes or toothbrush heads every three to four months or even sooner if you see bristles are starting to fray.
When purchasing a new toothbrush, grab one that has soft bristles. Using a toothbrush with medium or hard bristles can actually do more damage than good because tooth enamel can be worn down unintentionally and gums may become irritated.
#2: Establish a Healthy Oral Care Routine
Two minutes is the golden rule! Make sure you and your children are brushing your teeth for this amount of time and that you are brushing all of the surfaces on a tooth. That means brushing not only the tops of teeth, but the sides and behind teeth as well.
And to clean those hard to areas, floss gently between teeth. Cavities can actually form on the surface of teeth, so it’s especially important to remove any plaque that find its way in between teeth.
If you have young children that are starting preschool or kindergarten, try an oral care routine that is fun! Turn on some music while you brush, wear a costume if you have to, or maybe do a little dance in front of the mirror to encourage little ones to take care of their teeth.
#3: Whiten Teeth Naturally
This may not apply to young children because they have baby teeth that will eventually fall out, but older children like teens who have their permanent teeth can use Dr. Brite products to safely whiten their teeth.
Dr. Brite’s Teeth Whitening Pens come in two formulations that are both powerful, but gentle at the same time. The Natural Teeth Whitening Pen with peroxide is a great to way to whiten teeth if you’re short on time. Just this pen 2-3 times a day and you can notice teeth that are two shade whiter.
If your teen has extra sensitive teeth, Dr. Brite also has a Peroxide-free Teeth Whitening Pen that uses organic coconut oil to gradually whiten teeth. Again, this pen should be used 2-3 times a day and you can see teeth that are four shades brighter in a week.
#4: Pack Healthy Snacks & Lunches
The foods we eat can either help or hurt our teeth, so give your kids a head start on healthy. Pack crunchy fruits and veggies like apples, celery, and carrots that are great at tackling bad breath and that oral health.
It can be difficult to not pack your children’s favorite sugary drink, bag of chips or candy, but better snack and lunch options make for healthier teeth.

#5: Playing Contact Sports? Use a Mouthguard!
The last you probably want to deal with is an expensive dental procedure from a sports injury and the last thing your child want is dealing with a recovery process and a possible goofy-looking smile.
Between buying new backpacks, pencils, notebooks, and even textbooks, our oral care and our children’s oral care can almost be put to the side when back-to-school season arrives. But we only get one set of teeth and our teeth need to last us our entire lifetime. By taking small steps as the new school year approaches, you can set up your little ones on the road with a brite and healthy smile.
